This will be the 59th meeting between the Rams and the Vikings with WSSU leading 40-16-2. The very first game took place in 1940 and the Vikings won 31-0. Last season the Rams fell 19-14. Prior to, the Rams had won the last six games going back to 2005.

Last Time vs. ECSU
The Rams fell to ECSU 19-14, in a CIAA inter-divisional game. WSSU allowed ECSU to take a 13-0 lead at the half. The Rams could only generate 84 first-half offensive yards and were flagged for three unsportsman like conduct penalties.
Cameron Lewis also threw two interceptions. The Rams had their best rushing performance of the season, outgaining the Vikings 203 yards to 87. Junior running back
Cameron Davis rushed for 80 yards on 18 carries. Sophomore
Andrew Hayes added 75 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown run with 5:45 to play in the fourth quarter. That cut the Rams deficit to five points. It capped a quick four-play, 50-yard drive that consumed only 2 minutes and 26 seconds.
Last Time Out
The Rams fell to North Carolina Central University, 41-0 last Saturday, September 10 in Durham.
Justin Fleming recorded his third interception of the season and
Jahmier Slade saw action in his first collegiate game for the Rams.

Jahmier Slade is the first freshman to start since
Dominique Graves in 2018, he threw 3-of-4 passing for just ten yards last week.
CIAA Weekly Awards
Sophomore defensive back,
Justin Fleming was named the CIAA Defensive Back of the Week for week one https://ecsuvikings.com/sidearmstats/football/summary after he returned one interception for a 25-yard touchdown and Winston-Salem State's first points of the game. His other interception came in the redzone, stalling a Marauders' drive.
The defensive back also recorded five solo tackles, including one for a loss. His tackle for a loss came on a 3rd-and-1 that forced a Central State punt.
CIAA Pre-Season/Poll
Elijah Banks was named to the All-CIAA Preseason Team. Banks, a defensive back from Winston-Salem, North Carolina played in every game for the Rams during the 2021 season recording 34 total tackles (22 solo). He also had three interceptions for 47 yards, five pass deflections, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He was a second-team All-CIAA selection.
Overall, the Rams were picked to finish third in the southern division and eighth in the conference.

WSSU is on the road four times before they face Lincoln University (PA) for homecoming on October 1st. After this weekend's contest, WSSU will continue CIAA play taking on Chowan next weekend, September 24 in Murfreesboro, North Carolina. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
