Rams Victorious on Homecoming, Defeat St. Augustine’s

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – It's been four long years, but the Winston-Salem State University football team finally got to play a homecoming game. WSSU defeated St. Augustine's 24-17 Saturday afternoon inside Bowman Gray Stadium.

The Rams moved to 4-4 (4-2 CIAA) on the season.

How it Happened
  • SAU got on the board first taking a 7-0 lead in the second quarter.
  • With 48 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Daylin Lee threw a 9-yard pass to Myles Dillon. The extra point from Jobanni Esparza was good and the game was tied 7-7.
  • The Falcons took a ten-point lead in the third quarter.
  • With 4:29 to play in the third quarter, Lee threw a 1-yard pass to Jashawn Middletown to bring the Rams within three, 14-17.
  • Jobanni Esparza kicked a 35-yard field goal to tie the game at 17.
  •  11 seconds remained in the game and Daylin Lee ran the ball for one yard to give the Rams the 24-17 lead.
Inside the Numbers
  • Daylin Lee was 21-for-32 for 259 yards and two touchdowns.
  • Asa Barnes had nine attempts rushing for 41 yards.
  • Jashawn Middletown had eight receptions for 72 yards and one touchdown.
  • Defensively, Justin Fleming had seven tackles (6 solo). Terrel Chance had four tackles and one interception.

WSSU will take on Johnson C. Smith next Saturday in Charlotte, North Carolina. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
