Men’s Basketball Begins Conference Play Thursday, Concludes Non-Conference Play Sunday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team begins conference play by traveling to Bluefield, West Virginia on Thursday, December 9th taking on Bluefield State University, at 7:30 p.m.
 
The Rams will wrap up non-conference play as they host Clarion University on Sunday, December 10th inside the C.E. Gaines Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Series Information vs. Big Blue
This will be the third match-up between the Rams and the Big Blue, the Rams lead the series 2-0. The Rams defeated the Big Blue 79-63 on December 1st, 2017.
 
Series Information vs. Golden Eagles
This will be the third match-up between the Rams and the Golden Eagles. The Rams lead the series 2-0.  In their last match-up, the Rams defeated the Golden Eagles 65-49 in the Clarion Classic, on November 12th, 2022.
 
Last Time Out
The Rams fell short to No. 22 Lincoln Memorial 75-70 on Wednesday, November 29th. Isaac Parson led the Rams with 20 points, eight rebounds and six assists. Jahnarious Snell scored 13 points and Ketron "KC" Shaw had 10 points.
 
Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back seven returners from last year's team, sophomores Jeremy Dixon, Ketron "KC Shaw, juniors Ralph Bland, Stefon McLead, Isaac Parson, senior Jaylen Alston, and graduate student Jaylin Parker.
 
Ram Newcomers:
The Rams welcomed newcomers Lance Gill, Myles Pettis, Antonio Perkins, Camyl Witherspoon, Devon Bristow, Daylin Brandon, Tristan Davis, Tyrhe Fortney, Jahnarious Snell, Clint Wickliffe, and Imajae Dodd.
 
CIAA Preseason:
Isaac Parson was named to the All-CIAA preseason team Backcourt and Jaylen Alston was named to the All-CIAA Frontcourt team. Overall, the Rams were selected to finish fourth in the season poll and third in the Southern Division.
 
Weekly Awards
  • Jaylen Alston was named CIAA Offensive Player of the Week for week two and three.
  • Imajae Dodd was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week for week two.
 
D2SIDA Atlantic Regional Poll
The men were ranked 9th this week in the D2SIDA Atlantic Regional Poll despite a loss to No.22 Lincoln Memorial.
 
Scouting Report
Winston-Salem State University (5-3, 0-0 CIAA). The Rams are led in scoring by Jaylen Alston with 16.1 points per game and Isaac Parson with 13.9 points. The Rams are averaging 69.7 points a game while allowing 67 points.
 
Bluefield State University (2-6, 0-0 CIAA). The Big Blue edged out Wingate 88-85 on Saturday, December 2nd. Clay Baldwin led the Big Blue with 20 points, Jordan Hinds and Jaylen Bernard both scored 18 points, Hinds dished out seven assists. Jordan Hinds is the Big Blue leading scorer averaging 20 points a game, and Jaylen Bernard averaging 10.1 a game.
 
The Big Blue are scoring 81.9 points a game as they attempt 30 three-pointers a game.
 
Clarion University (4-3, 2-0 PSAC) defeated Bloomsburg 98-82 on Saturday, December 2nd. Cam Kearney led the Golden Eagles with 26 points. Justine Easton recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Steve Kelly, Jeremy Thomas II, and Jayson Harris all scored 15 points. Cam Kearney is the Golden Eagles' leading scorer averaging 16.7 points a game, Steve Kelly averaging 15.6 points, and Gavin Cote averaging 14.6 points.
 
The Golden Eagles average 75.3 points a game.

Following these two contests, the Rams will be back in action on Thursday, December 14th traveling to Bowie, Maryland taking on Bowie State University at 7:30 p.m.
