MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University softball team dropped two contests to Mount Olive in its season opener Monday afternoon inside the Nancy Champman Field.
The Rams moved to 0-2 in the season.
In game one, UMO struck early scoring runs in the bottom of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead. They later added runs in the bottom of the third and sixth to take the game 8-0.
Sierra Crocker earned her first start for the Rams pitching 2.2 innings. Her record is now 0-1. Julie Mannor came in and pitched 2.2 innings for the Rams.
In game two, the Rams saw their first hit of the season after
Ahmiya Laboy hit a single to left field. Mount Olive would later come back and score four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-0 lead. They added six more runs in the bottom of the second, three in the third, and four in the bottom of the fifth to conclude the game with a 17-0 final.
Julie Mannor saw her first start as a Ram pitching 2.2 innings with three strikeouts and moved to 0-1 on the season.
The Rams are back in action on Wednesday, February 8th, taking on Allen University in a doubleheader in Columbia South Carolina. The first game is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
