WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University football team earned its first victory of the season after defeating Elizabeth City 24-7 on Saturday evening inside Bowman Gray Stadium.
The Rams moved to 1-2 (1-0 CIAA), while Elizabeth City is 1-2 (0-1 CIAA).
How it Happened
- The Rams scored early in the first quarter on a field goal from Jobanni Esparza to give the Rams a 3-0 lead.
- WSSU added seven more points with 18 seconds left in the second quarter on a 7-yard run from Daylin Lee. With the extra point the Rams went into halftime leading 10-0.
- ECSU cut into the Rams' lead in the third quarter trailing 10-7.
- It was all Winston after that. RJ Mobley caught a 10-yard pass to give the Rams a 17-7 lead in the third quarter.
- They would then score their final touchdown on a 2-yard run from Asa Barnes to secure the victory.
Inside the Numbers
- Daylin Lee was 12-for-23 on passing with 123 yards and one touchdown.
- Asa Barnes had 19 attempts for 92 yards and a touchdown.
- RJ Mobley had five receptions for 61 yards and one touchdown.
- Defensively, Terrel Chance had nine tackles (8 solo) and one assist. Justin Fleming had seven tackles (5 solo) and 2.0 sacks for nine yards.
