WSSU takes on the Big Blue of Bluefield State University at Bowman Gray Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd at 6:00 p.m.

Bluefield State Last Time vs. Johnson C. Smith University

The Big Blue fell to the Golden Bulls 30-13. After a 26-yard field goal by kicker Al Garcia put JCSU on the board 3-0 mid-way through the first quarter. A second quarter dominated by JCSU outscoring the Big Blue 17-0 giving the Golden Bulls a 20-0 lead at halftime. Coming out of the half the Big Blue had a spark by running back Jahdir Loftland as he rushed for a 56-yard touchdown putting Bluefield on the board with the extra point cut JCSU down to 20-7.

The Golden Bull used a 9 plays drive capped out by another Al Garcia field goal to extend the lead 23-7 mid-way through the third quarter. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, the Golden Bulls used a 10-play drive ending in a 5-yard rushing touchdown with the extra point that gave JCSU a 30-7 lead. On the Big Blue next offensive possession, they used a 12-play drive and finished off with a 7-yard touchdown which made the score 30-13, as it was a little too late for the Big Blue.

The Rams offense & defense won the battle, charging WSSU to a 24-7 victory Saturday night. The Rams got on the board with a 29-yard field goal by Jobanni Esparaza giving WSSU a 3-0 lead as time expired in the first quarter. As the second quarter was winding down the Rams scored the first touchdown of the game with a rushing touchdown by
Daylin Lee which pushed the lead to 10-0 into halftime.

Elizabeth City found some momentum early in the 2nd half as they scored a 34-yard passing touchdown and with the extra point made the score 10-7 early in the third quarter. With the Rams scoring on an
RJ Mobley touchdown reception and later with an
Asa Barnes rushing touchdown that was all the Rams needed to pull away from the Vikings.

Camar Kyle was named Defensive Lineman of the Week, while teammates
Justin Fleming was named Defensive Back, and
Daylin Lee earned Rookie of the Week accolades for week three.

The Rams were picked fourth in the Southern Division and seventh overall.
