St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, - The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team came up short to the University of Fort Lauderdale, 90-80 on day two of the Virgin Island Classic Saturday morning.
 The Rams moved to (2-6, 0-0 CIAA) on the season.
Micah Jones led the Rams with a team-high 20 points, followed by Welsey Tubbs III with 18 points and seven rebounds.
Tyre Boykin scored 12 points and
Lorenzo Caldwell chipped in with nine points and 12 rebounds.Â

The Rams went 28-of-66 from the field, 19-of-30 from the free-throw line, and 5-of–16 from three. The Rams grabbed 40 rebounds and scored 17 second-chance points, nine points off turnovers, and 28 bench points.

In the first half, the Eagles took a 15-8 lead at the under 12:00 media timeout. A
Jaiden Thompson three-pointer cut the score down 31-22. The Eagles answered back with a 6-2 run extending their lead to 37-24. A Welsey Tubb III and-one chipped the score down to 39-30. Â
Khyelle Ingram's jumper trimmed the score down to 47-39. Fort Lauderdale took a 48-39 lead into halftime.Â
In the second half, a fast break dunk by Welsey Tubbs III dunk trimmed the Eagles lead 48-41. Fort Lauderdale extended their lead to 61-47.
Jaiden Thompson connected on a three-pointer making the score 61-50. The Rams went on a 7-2 run, cutting the lead down to 63-57, on a
Tyre Boykin three-pointer. Two
Micah Jones free-throws made the score 65-62.
Micah Jones tied the game 72-72. Fort Lauderdale answered back, going on an 8-0 run, taking an 80-72 lead. The Eagles closed out the game on an 18-8 run.Â
