Men’s Basketball Wraps-up Home Slate Versus Fayetteville State University on Tuesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team will conclude their home slate on Tuesday, February 13th. The Rams will take on divisional rival Fayetteville State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E Gaines Center.

Series Information vs. Fayetteville State University 
Since 2006 the Rams have led the series 21-9. This will be the second match-up between the Rams and Broncos this season. The Broncos won the first match-up 61-58 on January 27th.
 
Last Time Out
The Rams defeated Claflin University 63-61 on Saturday, February 10th. Jaylen Alston led the Rams with 20 points and nine rebounds while Ketron "KC" Shaw added 16 points and eight rebounds. Isaac Parson and Tristan Davis chipped in with seven points each.
 
Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back seven returners from last year's team, sophomores Jeremy Dixon, Ketron "KC" Shaw, juniors Ralph Bland, Stefon McLead, Isaac Parson, senior Jaylen Alston, and graduate student Jaylin Parker.
 
Ram Newcomers:
The Rams welcomed newcomers Lance Gill, Myles Pettis, Antonio Perkins, Camyl Witherspoon, Devon Bristow, Daylin Brandon, Tristan Davis, Tyrhe Fortney, Jahnarious Snell, Clint Wickliffe, and Imajae Dodd.
 
CIAA Preseason:
Isaac Parson was named to the All-CIAA preseason team Backcourt and Jaylen Alston was named to the All-CIAA Frontcourt team. Overall, the Rams were selected to finish fourth in the season poll and third in the Southern Division.
 
Weekly Awards
  • Jaylen Alston was named CIAA Offensive Player of the Week for weeks two and three and 12.
  • Imajae Dodd was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week  for weeks two, six. and seven. 
  • Isaac Parson was named HBCU National Player of the Week & CIAA Player of the Week for week seven.

The men were not ranked in the polls this week but did receive votes. 
 
Scouting Report
Winston-Salem State University (15-8, 9-5 CIAA)
The Rams are led in scoring by Jaylen Alston with 16.9 points per game and Isaac Parson 12.8 points per game and Ketron "KC" Shaw with 10.5 per game..The Rams are averaging 70.4 points a game. 
 
Fayetteville State University (14-10, 9-5 CIAA) 
The Broncos defeated Johnson C. Smith 88-57 on Thursday, February 8th. Tairell Fletcher led the Broncos with 25 points and seven rebounds, followed by Caleb Simmons with 18 points and seven rebounds. Kaleb Simmons chipped in with 13 points and nine rebounds. Tairell Fletcher is the Broncos leading scorer averaging 14.2 points a game, followed by Caleb Simmons  with 12.0 points per game. Tyler Froster with 11.1 points per game, and Kaleb Simmons with 10.3 points per game. 
 
The Broncos are averaging 65.0 points per game.
 
Up Next 
The Rams will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana on Saturday, February 17th. The Rams will play in the NBA HBCU Classic against Virginia Union University.Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
