Men’s Basketball Plays in CIAA Tournament Quarterfinals Versus #6 Bluefield State on Wednesday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team will begin the CIAA Tournament playing in the quarterfinals in Baltimore Maryland, on Wednesday. February 28th. The Rams will take on #6 Bluefield State University. Tip-off is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. inside CFG Bank Arena.

Series Information vs. Bluefield State University
This will be the fourth match-up between the Rams and the Big Blue, the Rams lead the series 3-0. This will be the second match-up between the Rams and the Big Blue this season. The Rams won the first match-up 82-71 on December 7th, 2023.
 
Last Time Out
The Rams defeated Livingstone College 77-57 on Saturday, February 24th. Jaylen Alston led the Rams with a double-double, 21 points and 11 rebounds. Jeremy Dixon scored 12 points, followed by Ketron "KC" Shaw and Isaac Parson with 10 points each. Parson also dished out six assists.
 
 Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back seven returners from last year's team, sophomores Jeremy Dixon, Ketron "KC Shaw, juniors Ralph Bland, Stefon McLead, Isaac Parson, senior Jaylen Alston, and graduate student Jaylin Parker.
 
Ram Newcomers:
The Rams welcomed newcomers Lance Gill, Myles Pettis, Devon Bristow, Daylin Brandon, Tristan Davis, Tyrhe Fortney, Jahnarious Snell, Clint Wickliffe, and Imajae Dodd.
 
CIAA Preseason:
Isaac Parson was named to the All-CIAA preseason team Backcourt and Jaylen Alston was named to the All-CIAA Frontcourt team. Overall, the Rams were selected to finish fourth in the season poll and third in the Southern Division.
 
Weekly Awards
  • Jaylen Alston was named CIAA Offensive Player of the Week for weeks two, three, 12 and 15.
  • Jaylen Alston was named HBCU National Player of the Week once this season.
  • Imajae Dodd was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week for weeks two, six. and seven.
  • Isaac Parson was named HBCU National Player of the Week & CIAA Player of the Week for week seven.
 
CIAA Postseason Awards
Isaac Parson was named to the All-CIAA Backcourt and Jaylen Alston was named to the All-CIAA Frontcourt.
Alston was also named the CIAA Player of the Year, while Imajae Dodd was named the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year and head Coach Cleo Hill, Jr. was named the CIAA Men's Coach of the Year.

The men are ranked 10th as of February 18th.

Bluefield State University (8-21, 4-13 CIAA)
The Big Blue defeated St. Augustine's University on Monday, February 26 to advance to the quarterfinals. Jordan Hinds was the MVP for the Big Blue scoring 24 points, grabbing seven rebounds and collecting two steals.
