Alston Has a Double-Double as Men’s Basketball Close-Out Season with loss to Bluefield in CIAA Quarterfinals

Baltimore, M.D.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team fell in overtime to Bluefield State University, 67-66 inside CFG Bank Arena.

The Rams finished the season 19-9, 13-5 CIAA.
 
Jaylen Alston led the Rams with a double-double of 34 points and 15 rebounds. Isaac Parson scored 10 points and nine rebounds, followed by Ketron "KC" Shaw chipping in with eight points.  
 
Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 21-of-60 from the field, 20-of-32 from the free-throw line, and 4-of–17 from three. They scored 34 points in the paint, 16 second-chance points, grabbed 39 rebounds, and scored 20 points off turnovers and 11 bench points.
 
In the first half, the Rams jumped out to an early 9-2 run, highlighted by a Jaylen Alston lay-up with 15:12 on the clock. The Big Blue went on a 5-0 run tying the game at 16-16 with 9:08 remaining. With the game tied at 18-18, the Rams went on a 10-0 run. The run was highlighted by a Jeremy Dixon three-pointer making the score 28-18 with 4:34 left. The Big Blue answered back with an 8-2 run, making the score 30-26 with 2:48 remaining. Isaac Parson pushed the lead back out to 33-26 on a jumper with 20 seconds. The Rams took a 33-28 lead into halftime. 
 
In the second half, the Big Blue went on a 7-0 run regaining the lead 40-38 with 15:41 left. Jaylen Alston went on his own 5-0 run putting the Rams back ahead 43-40 with 14:41. The Big Blue went on an 8-0 run taking a 57-50 lead with 3:46 remaining. The Rams fought back with a 9-0 run taking the lead on an Isaac Parson jumper with 1:05 left. With a made lay-up by the Big Blue tying the game back up 59-59, Daylin Brandon missed a jumper, but Jaylen Alston tipped the put back in giving the Rams a 61-59 lead with 26 seconds. The Big Blue hit two free-throws tying the game at 61-61 with 11 seconds remaining sending the game into overtime. 
 
In overtime, the Big Blue took a 63-61 lead on two free throws with 3:51 left. Jaylen Alston tied the game up 63-63 on a jumper with 2:28 remaining. Jaylen Alston gave the Rams the lead 66-65 on a lay-up with 1:13 left but the final shot was missed by the Rams to seal the deal.
