Men’s Basketball Fall on the Road to St. Augustine’s

RALEIGH. N.C.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team fell short to St. Augustine's University 60-56 Wednesday night. 
 
 The Rams moved to (14-8, 8-5 CIAA).
 
Jaylen Alston led the Rams with a double-double of 19 points and 16 rebounds. Ketron "KC" Shaw chipped in with 12 points and Isaac Parson and Imajae Dodd both had seven points each. 
 
Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 20-of-63 from the field, 13-of-21 from the free-throw line, and 3-of–16 from three. They scored 26 points in the paint, 10 fast break points, and grabbed 43 rebounds with 14 second-chance points. 
 
In the first half, after trailing two, Imajae Dodd put the Rams on the board with a monster dunk making the score 4-2 Falcons with 15:41 left. With the score 16-11 Falcons, Ketron "KC' Shaw hit a big three-pointer making the score 16-14 with 9:15 remaining. Down by four points 18-14, the Rams went on a 5-0 run, taking their first lead of the game on a Jaylen Alston free-throw making the score 19-18 with 7:43 remaining in the half. With the score 27-23 with 2:23 left, the Rams closed out the half on a 7-0 run highlighted by a Jaylen Alston lay-up. The Rams took a 30-27 lead into halftime. 
 
In the second half, the Falcons went on a 7-0 run lead, 39-32 with 14:42 left in the game. Devon Bristow answered back on a lay-up 39-34 with 14:18 remaining. Jaylen Alston cut the Falcons' lead to four points 42-38, on a jumper with 11:51 remaining. The Rams went on a 5-0 run cutting the deficit to six points, 53-47 on two made free-throws by Jaylen Alston with 5:12 remaining. Down 58-51, Tristan drilled a big three-pointer making the score 58-54 with 18 seconds left. After a missed free throw by the Falcons, Tristan Davis missed a three-point attempt, but Jaylen Alston grabbed the board and put the ball back in, making the score 58-56 with three seconds remaining. The Falcons connected on both free-throws putting the game out of reach.

The Rams will host Claflin University on Senior Day, Saturday, February 10th. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
