Men’s Basketball Begins conference Play on the Road with Elizabeth City on Saturday, Virginia State on Monday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team will begin conference play, traveling to Elizabeth City, North Carolina to take on Elizabeth City State University, on Saturday, January 4th. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside the R.L. Vaughan Center. 

WSSU will then travel to Petersburg, Virginia on Monday, January 6th to take on Virginia State University, tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the Multipurpose Center.

Series Information vs. Elizabeth City State University
Since 2006 this will be the 23rd meeting between the Rams and Vikings. The Rams are currently on a four-game-winning streak. Last season the Rams defeated the Vikings 76-51 on January 4th, 2024. 

Series Information vs. Virginia State University 
Since 2006 this will be the 16th meeting between the Rams and Trojans. The series is currently tied 8-8. Last season the Rams defeated the Trojans 76-62 on January 6th, 2024.  

Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back four returners from last year's team, sophomore Lance Gill, juniors Stefon McLeod, Jeremy Dixon, and senior Ralph Bland
 
Ram Newcomers:
During the off-season, the Rams welcomed 11 newcomers freshman CJ Alston, Khyelle Ingram, Samuel Newkirk, Samuel Hood, redshirt freshman Masuan Moore-Byrant, sophomores Jaiden Thompson, Wesley Tubbs III, juniors Lorenzo Caldwell, Tyre Boykin, Abou Camara and senior Micah Jones.
 
CIAA Preseason/Poll
Overall, the Rams were selected to finish fifth in the CIAA preseason poll.

CIAA Weekly Awards
•    Khyelle Ingram was named Rookie of the Week for week 6. 

Last Time Out
The Rams defeated Benedict College 62-59 on Friday, December 20th in the Chris Paul Tip-Off Challenge. Micah Jones was named to the All-Tournament Team. Jones also led the Rams with 19 points, followed by Lorenzo Caldwell with a double-double 12 points and 10 rebounds. 

Scouting Report
The Rams are led in scoring by Micah Jones with 14.8 points a game, followed by Wesley Tubb III with 9.6 points. WSSU is averaging 72.8 points per game.

Elizabeth City State University (6-5, 0-3 CIAA)
The Vikings fell to Claflin University 83-69 on Thursday, December 19th, 2024. The Vikings are led in scoring by Micheal Eads Jr with 13.9 points followed by Dericko Williams with 13.1 points, Xavier Tubbs-Matthews with 12.9 points, and Reggie Raynor with 10.7 points. Elizabeth City is averaging 80.2 points per game. 

Virginia State University (8-4, 3-0 CIAA)
The Trojans defeated Claflin University 84-70 on Saturday, December 21st. As of December 21st, the Trojans are led in scoring by Jacob Cooper with 15.4 points followed by Clint Wright Jr. with 10.3 points. Virginia State is averaging 81.2 points per game.

The men will return home on Saturday, January 11th to take on Bluefield State University, tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center. The theme for the game is Camo Day.
