WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Three Rams from the Winston-Salem State University football team garnered CIAA honors, the league announced Friday afternoon.
Chris "C.J." Brown was named to the All-CIAA Second Team for defensive line, while Jamieson Alston was named to the All-CIAA Second Team for linebackers and
Evan Powell was named to the All-CIAA Second Team for defensive backs.
Brown, a junior from Charlotte, North Carolina recorded 36 total tackles (20 solo, 16 assists), 10.5 tackles for loss for 27 yards, 2.5 sacks for nine yards, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and the QB hits. Brown recorded three or more tackles in five games, a tackle for loss in six games. Brown's best game came on September 27th against Bowie State, he had five total tackles (three solo, two assists), 1.5 tackles for loss for five yards and a fumble recovery.
Alston a senior from Fayetteville, North Carolina had 81 total tackles (44 solo, 37 assists), 12.5 tackles for loss netting 46 yards, two sacks netting 21 yards, two forced fumbles, one interception and one pass break up. Alston recorded five or more tackles in seven games, 10 or more tackles twice and a tackle for loss in seven games. Alston's best game came on October 11th against Shaw, he had a season-high 16 totals, two tackles for loss, a forced fumble and a pass break up. Alston was named Linebacker of the week twice.
Powell a senior from Mebane, North Carolina had 76 total tackles (35 assists and 41solo), three tackles for loss, one sack, one forced fumble, one interception for 22 yards and three pass break ups. Powell recorded five or more tackles in six games. Evan's best game came on October 5th against Virginia Union. Powell had 15 total tackles (six solo, nine assists). He also recorded 12 tackles against Lincoln (Pa.) on September 13th. Powell was named Defensive Back of the week once.
