Rams Open up Conference Play with Victory Over Bowie State Saturday

Bowie, M.D.– The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team defeated Bowie State 71-60, inside the A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Rams improved to (3-4, 1-0 CIAA).

Tyre Boykin led the Rams with 23 points, followed by Abou Camara with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Khyelle Ingram chipped in with 10 points. 

Quick Inside the Numbers
The Rams went 26-of-53 from the field, 4-of-14 from three and 15-of-23 from the free-throw line. The Rams grabbed 36 rebounds, scored 34 points in the paint and 28 bench points. 

How It Happened 
In the first half, the Bulldogs took a quick 5-0 lead on a jumper (18:36). WSSU went on a 6-2 run, trimming Bowie's lead to 7-6 on a Tyre Boykin lay-up (16:12). The Rams answered back with a 7-0 run, taking a 13-10 lead on a Tyre Boykin lay-up (12:58). A Lance Gill three-pointer extended the Rams lead to 19-14 (11:21). The Rams lead grew to 23-14, on another Lance Gill three-pointer (9:00). BSU went on a 6-0 run, chipping the lead 28-26 on two made free-throws (2:52). WSSU took a 31-28 lead into halftime. 

In the second half, a BSU three-pointer tied the game at 33-33 (18:16). Isaiah Ray put the Rams ahead 38-35 on a lay-up 15:32). WSSU went on a 10-0 run, extending their lead to 48-37 on a lay-up (12:50). The Rams grew to 56-43 on a Isaish Sutherland dunk (9:17). A Khyelle Ingram jumper made the score 61-45 (6:43). WSSU took their largest lead of the game 69-51, on a Abou Camara monster dunk (2:52). Despite the Bulldogs closing out on a 9-2 run, the Rams held off the Bulldogs.

The men will then travel to Wilmington, Delaware, taking on Lincoln University (Pa.) on December 15. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the Chase Fieldhouse.
