Men’s Basketball Hit the Road to Claflin Saturday

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team will travel to Orangeburg, South Carolina, on Saturday, February 8th taking on Claflin University. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside the Tullis Arena.

Series Information vs. Claflin University 
Since 2015, the Panthers lead the series 8-7. This will be the second match-up this season. The Panthers won the last match-up 82-47 on January 18th, 2025. 
 
Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back four returners from last year's team, sophomore Lance Gill, junior Jeremy Dixon, seniors Ralph Bland and Stefon McLeod.
 
Ram Newcomers:
During the off-season the Rams welcomed 11 newcomers freshman's CJ Alston, Khyelle Ingram, Samuel Newkirk, redshirt freshman Masaun Moore-Bryant, sophomores Jaiden Thompson, Wesley Tubbs juniors Lorenzo Caldwell, Tyre Boykin, Abou Camara, J'vonni Roblejo, and senior Micah Jones
 
CIAA Preseason/Poll
Overall, the Rams were selected to finish fifth in the CIAA preseason poll.
 
CIAA Weekly Awards  
Last Time Out
The Rams fell to Bluefield State 98-78 on Wednesday, February 5th. Tyre Boykin led the Rams with 20 points, followed by Lance Gill with 12 points, Micah Jones with 11 points. 
 
Scouting Report
The Rams are led in scoring by Micah Jones with 13.8 points a game, followed by Tyre Boykin with 13.7 points. WSSU is averaging 66.6 points per game.
 
Claflin University (14-9, 7-5 CIAA, 4-2 South)
The Panthers defeated Livingstone College 75-62 on Wednesday, February 5th. The Panthers are led in scoring by John Whitehead III with 13.3 points followed by Jailen Williams with 11.0 points, Gregory Spurlock with 10.5 points. Claflin is averaging 77.8 points per game.  
 
Up Next
The men will return to action on Tuesday, February 11th, hosting Johnson C. Smith University. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center. The theme is Pink Out.
