Rams Sweep Shaw During Pink Game

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. –The Winston- Salem State University softball team swept Shaw University Tuesday afternoon at Twin City Ballfield.
 
The Rams took game one, 5-4 and game one 3-2 to move to 11-8 (7-3 CIAA, 4-0 South) on the season.
 
How it Happened – Game 1
The Rams got on the board first with a single from Miranda Wilson scoring Tymiah Wimbush in the bottom of the second inning. The Bears took the lead in the top of the third inning with a two-run single, 2-1. Shaw added another run to take a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning. The Rams answered back with three runs in the bottom of the sixth, taking a 4-3 lead on a Jyla Thomas two run homerun. The Bears answered back, tying the game 4-4 on a bases loaded walk. Aaliyah Rodriguez came clutch with a double driving in Layla Smith, walking off Shaw 4-3.  
 
Jyla Thomas pitched a complete game while facing 36 batters with three strikeouts and picking up the win moving to 5-2, 1 S. 
 
How it Happened – Game 2
The Rams took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning with Jai'Nasia Baliey driving in Malia Simmons with a single. An RBI ground out by Layla Smith scored Malia Simmons making the score 2-0. Jyla Thomas extended the Rams lead to 3-0 run, with a double driving in Layla in the bottom of the fifth. Shaw got on the board with a two-run single making the score 3-2 in the top of the sixth. 
 
Naveah Cruz pitched a complete game while facing 31 batters with six strikeouts and moving to 4-4 on the season.
 
The Rams will travel to Virginia Union for a doubleheader on Friday, April 4th beginning at 1:00 p.m.
