Men’s Hoops Set to Host Virginia State Tuesday Night

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Rams will host Virginia State University on January 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.

Series Information vs. Virginia State University  
Since 2006, the Trojans have led the series 9-8. Last time out, the Rams fell to the Trojans 74-68 on January 16, 2025. 

Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back eight returners from last year's team, sophomores CJ Alston, Khyelle Ingram, Samuel Newkirk, redshirt sophomore Masaun Bryant, juniors Lance Gill and Jaiden Thompson, senior Abou Camara and redshirt senior Tyre Boykin.
  
Ram Newcomers:
During the off-season the Rams welcomed seven newcomers, freshmen Bryson Cowan, Arrington Kee, sophomores Treyton "Tre" Crite, and Isaiah Sutherland, seniors Demetri Patterson and Isaish Ray and redshirt senior Ethan English.
                                                          
CIAA Preseason/Poll
Overall, the Rams were selected to finish 12th in the CIAA preseason poll.

CIAA Weekly Awards 
  • Abou Camara was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week for week eight. 

Last Time Out
The Rams defeated Elizabeth City State University 63-57 on January 10. Tyre Boykin led the Rams with 18 points, followed by Khyelle Ingram with 16 points, and Abou Camara chipped in with a double-double of 13 points and 13 rebounds. 

Scouting Report 
Tyre Boykin is the Rams' leading scorer with 20.5 points per game, followed by Khyelle Ingram with 9.7 points per game. WSSU is averaging 75.8 points per game. 

Virginia State University (9-8, 2-3 CIAA) 
The Trojans defeated Johnson C. Smith 83-61 on January 10. Jacob Cooper leads the Trojans in scoring with 15.3 points per game, followed by William Hopkins with 8.9 points per game. VSU is averaging 74.5 per game.

The Rams will travel to Raleigh, North Carolina, taking on Shaw University on January 17. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. inside the C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium.
