WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University men's basketball team dropped a nail-bitter game inside the C.E. Gaines Center falling to Claflin 70-69.
WSSU moves to (7-15, 2-11 (CIAA), 0-6 South).
Lance Gill led with 17 points, followed by
Khyelle Ingram and
Tyre Boykin with 15 points each.
Abou Camara had 11 points and 14 rebounds.
The Rams shot 24-of-64 from the field, 8-of-22 from three-point range, and 13-of-17 from the free throw line.
WSSU had an early 12-7 lead to start the game. The game was tied 16-all with under nine to play in the first half. WSSU led 29-25 with 4:43 remaining in the half. WSSU went into halftime trailing 41-37.
The Rams trailed by four, 48-44 with 14:56 to play in the game. Made free throws from
Lance Gill and Tyre Boykib bought the Rams within one, 48-47 (14:08). Boykin hit a three pointer to give WSSU a 50-48 lead. Claflin went on a 6-2 run to take a 56-52 lead. The Rams trailed 61-59 with under eight minutes to play. WSSU tied the game at 63-all at the last media of the game (4:33). The Rams took a one-point lead, 66-65 with two minutes left. Claflin took the game 70-69.
WSSU will close-out its homestand on Saturday, Feb. 14 hosting Shaw University for senior day at 4:00 p.m. inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
