#6S Rams Take on #3N Bluefield State in CIAA Tournament First Round on Wednesday



WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The #6S Rams will face off with the #3N Bluefield State University in the first round of the CIAA Tournament on February 25.  Tip-off is scheduled for 12:10 inside the CFG Bank Arena.

Series Information vs. Bluefield State  
Since 2017, this will be the sixth matchup between the Big Blue and the Rams. This is the second match-up this season for the Rams and Big Blue. Last time out, the Rams fell to BSU 84-75 on January 7. 

Rams Returners:
The Rams brought back seven returners from last year's team, sophomores Khyelle Ingram, Samuel Newkirk, redshirt sophomore Masaun Bryant, juniors Lance Gill and Jaiden Thompson, senior Abou Camara, and redshirt senior Tyre Boykin.

Ram Newcomers:
During the off-season, the Rams welcomed seven newcomers, freshmen Bryson Cowan, Arrington Kee, sophomores Treyton "Tre" Crite, and Isaiah Sutherland, seniors Demetri Patterson and Isaiah Ray and redshirt senior Ethan English.
                                                          
CIAA Preseason/Poll
Overall, the Rams were selected to finish 12th in the CIAA preseason poll.

CIAA Weekly Awards 
  • Abou Camara was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Week for week eight. 


Last Time Out
The Rams fell to Livingstone College 79-76 on February 21. Masaun Bryant led the Rams with 19 points and eight rebounds, followed by Lance Gill with 15 points, Khyelle Ingram had a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds.  

Scouting Report 
Tyre Boykin is the Rams' leading scorer with 17.5 points per game, followed by Khyelle Ingram with 10.5 points per game. WSSU is averaging 72.0 points per game. 

Bluefield State University (13-14, 11-5 CIAA, 8-3 North) 
The Big Blue defeated Elizabeth City State 72-51 on February 23. Myles Pierre leads the Big Blue in scoring with 18.5 points per game, followed by Ellija Preddy with 11.7 points per game. The Big Blue are averaging 67.3 per game.
