WSSU Lady Rams Honored by Forsyth County Commissioners

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - In a spirited event, the Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams were honored April 2 by the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners for their historic basketball season.

Commissioner Tonya D. McDaniel, a 2012 WSSU alumna, read a proclamation highlighting the team. She mentioned their 28-4 record, including 13-0 at home, their first ever CIAA Tournament Championship win and their two victories – by 17 and 19 points, respectively – in their debut NCAA DII Tournament. McDaniel also cited the fact that 13 members of the Lady Rams earned a spot on the CIAA Commissioner's Honors Roll, which required a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrated excellence in the classroom to match their excellence on the hardwood.

"And whereas the Lady Rams' historic season brought world recognition to Winston-Salem and Forsyth County, elevating the visibility of the university and the community on a regional and national stage," McDaniel read from the proclamation, "…Now therefore be it proclaimed that the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners hereby recognizes and commends the outstanding achievements of the '25-'26 Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams team and Head Coach Tierra Terry, and be it further proclaimed that the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners officially designates April 2, 2026, as the Winston-Salem State University Lady Rams Basketball Team Day."

Lady Rams student-athletes could barely contain their excitement, snapping selfies and even shouting, "Happy Rams Day!" as they made their way out of the room.

WSSU Chancellor Bonita J. Brown thanked the commissioners for honoring the team.

"As you can see, you made the day of these outstanding young ladies," Brown said. "They represent our university well. They represent the city well, and we're glad you all acknowledged your support. Winston-Salem State is a vital part of this community, and we really do just thank you for your support."
