SALISBURY, N.C. — The Winston-Salem State University women's volleyball team (2-1) closed out the 5th Set Invitational Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of Davis & Elkins inside Goodman Arena.
The Rams defeated the Senators 26-24, 25-19, 25-15 to finish the invitational with a victory.

WSSU used a balanced offensive attack and a strong defensive effort to secure the straight-set victory. The Rams finished with 43 kills and a .193 hitting percentage while adding seven service aces, six blocks and 64 digs.
SET 1 | Winston-Salem State and Davis & Elkins battled throughout a tightly contested opening frame, with eight ties and four lead changes. The Rams used 16 kills and three blocks to edge the Senators, 26-24.
SET 2 | Davis & Elkins jumped out to an early advantage before WSSU battled back to even the set at 18-18. The Rams then scored seven of the final eight points, including a kill from Celina Johnson to close out the 25-19 victory and take a 2-0 match lead.
SET 3 | The Rams took control early in the final set, building a 10-5 advantage before maintaining their lead throughout the remainder of the frame. WSSU used 15 kills and a .294 hitting percentage to close out the Senators, 25-15, and complete the sweep.

The Rams will hit the road again the following weekend to compete in the King Classic, Thursday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept. 4, hosted by King University in Bristol, Tennessee.
