WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's volleyball team (2-1) will compete in the 2026 King's Classic in Bristol, Tennessee, hosted by King's University, on Thursday, Sept 3rd. and Friday, Sept. 4th inside Kline Gym.
The Rams will face off against King University at 3pm, then Newberry College at 5pm. They will then compete the following day against Saint Anslem College at 12pm, then proceed to play Emory & Henry University at 3pm.

2026 Winston-Salem State Women's Volleyball
The Rams are heading into their next match with heads held high. Last match, the Rams closed out with a 3-0 wipe of teams Davis & Elkins, hosted at the Goodman Arena.
WSSU had some heavy hitters show up this past weekend, top performers being
Angelica Turnage, with 9 kills and 4 blocks. Turnage, a sophomore from Franklinton, NC, had some shoes to fill from last season. Ending off with 124 kills on 393 attacks, and an average of 1.81 points per set, she truly led the way this game and had her team shining! Following that lead was
Holiday Ellis, a first-team All-CIAA & D2CCA All-Atlantic Region honoree from last season, who shined with 9 kills and 8 digs. Right after was
Sarah Sanders, from Lawrenceville, GA, who made a statement with 7 kills and 3 digs!
Head coach,
Christa Brown, 2025 CIAA Coach of the Year, presents some tough hitters on her roster this season. From stats to decorations, the Rams are setting a high expectation for the 2026 Volleyball season.
King University
King University finished 13-16 overall and 10-10 in conference play last season. Gracia Love led the Tornadoes with 287 kills, while Isabel Krick added 225 and Riley Nelson recorded 217. King has started 2026 at 3-0, including a 3-2 win over conference foe Bluefield State where Cameron Martin recorded 16 kills.
Newberry College
Newberry finished 11-15 overall and 6-12 in conference play last season. The Wolves return several offensive contributors, including Carole Ann Hussey, who recorded 227 kills, while Evie Paalman added 182. Newberry is off to a 4-0 start in 2026, with Maggie Helle leading the team with 31 kills through their opening tournament.
Saint Anselm College
Saint Anselm finished 12-13 overall and 4-5 in conference play last season, led by Hollyn Frano's 230 kills and Mckenna O'Connell's 810 assists. The Hawks have opened 2026 at 2-0, including a five-set win over Dominican where Addison Shelton posted a career-high 17 kills and Sam Pila added 16 kills and 20 digs.
Emory & Henry University
Emory & Henry finished 3-25 overall and 0-18 in conference play last season. The Wasps recorded 22 kills in a 3-0 loss to Newberry in 2025 and will look to start fresh this season. Emory & Henry opens the 2026 season this weekend at the King's Tournament.

The Rams will see the court again on Monday, Sept. 21st, opening conference play against rival Fayetteville State. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m., inside Whitaker Gymnasium.
