WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's volleyball team (4-3) will open CIAA play against rival Fayetteville State University on Monday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m. inside Whitaker Gymnasium.
The Rams are coming off two victories at the King's Classic in Bristol, Tennessee, where they swept Saint Anselm College, 3-0, before defeating Emory & Henry University, 3-2.

SCOUTING WINSTON-SALEM STATE
Winston-Salem State enters its CIAA opener with a 4-3 record after finishing the King's Classic with a pair of victories on Friday, Sept. 4.
Against Saint Anselm,
Angelica Turnage led the Rams with 12 kills, while
Zaria Keys recorded 14 assists and 11 digs.
Kalyn Cuthbertson added a strong defensive performance with 19 digs.
The Rams then battled Emory & Henry in a five-set match. After falling behind, WSSU rallied to win the final two sets, including a 15-12 victory in the deciding fifth set. Turnage finished with 13 kills and five blocks, while
Holiday Ellis contributed 11 kills, four service aces and 18 digs. Cuthbertson led the Rams with 20 digs.
WSSU will look to carry that momentum into its first CIAA match of the season against Fayetteville State. With the rivalry and conference play adding to the stakes, the Rams will look to defend home court at Whitaker Gymnasium.
SCOUTING FAYETTEVILLE STATE
Fayetteville State enters Monday's match with a 3-1 record after opening the 2026 season with wins over Wingate University, Georgia College & State University and the University of Mount Olive.
The Broncos have recorded 157 kills through 14 sets and are averaging 11.2 kills, 9.7 assists, 2.7 service aces, 15.4 digs and 1.5 blocks per set.
Mya Hejl, Leticia Neves Nascimento and Kyla Powell lead Fayetteville State with 29 kills apiece, while Kemyah Harris follows with 28 kills. Hejl also leads the Broncos with 10 blocks, while Jasmine Culp has made an impact defensively with 62 digs.
