WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's volleyball team (4-4, 0-1 CIAA) will host Bluefield State University on Thursday, Sept. 24th, inside Whitaker Gym. The second home game of the season, The Rams have some strong support behind them.
Coming out of Monday's game against Fayetteville State where they fell 3-2, The Rams have an even playing field. The Broncos put up a good fight, despite the sea of red in the stands!

Last Game for Winston-Salem State
The WSSU women's volleyball team opened CIAA play Monday night with an intense battle against rival Fayetteville State University, falling 3-2 inside Whitaker Gymnasium.
The Rams fought back after dropping the first set, winning the second and third sets 28-26 to take a 2-1 lead. Despite the Broncos taking the fourth set 25-23, WSSU continued to fight before Fayetteville State closed the match out with a 15-6 win in the fifth set.
Holiday Ellis led the Rams with 17 kills, 10 digs and an ace, while
Angelica Turnage added 13 kills and five blocks.
Zaria Keys recorded 20 assists, and
Kalyn Cuthbertson led the defensive effort with 18 digs.
Although the Rams fell in their CIAA opener, their strong fight throughout the match showed the team's determination as they look ahead to their next conference matchup against Bluefield State University.
Scouting Bluefield State
Bluefield State enters the matchup with a 6-4 overall record and a 1-0 mark in CIAA play. The Big Blue are averaging 10.4 kills, 9.2 assists, 1.8 service aces, 14.6 digs and 2.1 blocks per set.
Soniya Garner leads Bluefield State with 87 kills, while Callesta Styles has added 71 kills and a team-high 2.22 kills per set. Tessa Heffner has been a key contributor in setting with 250 assists, while Kaileigh Solis has recorded a team-high 143 digs. Styles also leads the Big Blue with 41 total blocks.
Bluefield State has competed in several close matches this season, including five-set victories over Glenville State and Davis & Elkins, as well as a five-set loss to King (Tenn.). The Big Blue also earned a 3-1 victory over Bluefield University earlier this season.
