Biography
2016-17: Kandace continued her solid career with the Rams…She finished the season as the Ram’s leading scorer and rebounder for the second season in a row…She finished the season with 270 total points to lead the Rams and averaged 9.6 points per game…She also tied for the team lead with 163 total rebounds and averaged 5.8 rebounds per game…She was also the team’s top defender with 44 blocked shots along with 12 steals…She ranked third in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) in blocked shots…Her best game of the season came against Livingstone where she scored a career-high 26 points and 12 rebounds in a double-overtime loss to the Blue Bears…She also scored 19 points to lead the Rams to a win at Lincoln (Pa.)…For her efforts, she earned a spot on the All-CIAA team.
2015-16: Kandace played in all 28 games with 25 starts at the vital center position…She finished the season with 250 points to lead the way for the team…She averaged a team-high 8.9 points per game and also pulled in 160 rebounds to average 5.7 rebounds per game…She also added 20 blocks to lead the team as well…She started season with a bang when she scored 18 points against Pitt-Johnstown and followed that effort with a career-high 21 points and 14 rebounds at Shepherd…She also scored 17 points against Washington Adventist…She also had 10 rebounds against Wilmington (Del.) and at Saint Augustine’s…She also had three blocks against Shaw.
Personal: Kandace was counted upon as one of the top newcomers to the Rams last season…She came to WSSU after a season at Eastern Illinois University…She is a 2014 graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School where she earned several honors including being named the team MVP and the three-year basketball award…She also played volleyball where she was named to the Southwest Suburban Conference (SWSC) All-Tournament team and player of the week…She was also impressive in the classroom where she earned the HF Achievement Award and was named the Student of the Quarter in the Science Department….She is a Nursing major and the daughter of Marlon Hooper and Michelle Tate.
