2013 SOPHOMORE SEASON: (SURRY COMMUNITY COLLEGE) Pitched 84 innings, striking out 73 batters with a 2.74 ERA. At Surry, Wes was named pitcher of the year, and All-Conference for his success on the mound his sophomore season.

High School: Wes attended North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem. In his senior season, Wes hit 4 homeruns, had a .341 batting average, and was the team’s # 1 pitcher. He also was selected All-Conference his senior season.

Personal: Wes is the son of Alex and Sandy Helsabeck.

Favorite thing about WSSU Baseball: How each player on the team constantly strives to get better and improve from one year to the next.

COACH RITSCHE ON HELSABECK: “Wes is a top end of the rotation left-handed pitcher with great command and movement. His command of his pitches during his time at Surry was impressive and he is expected to have the same control again this spring.”
