Biography

2011JUNIOR SEASON (Mt. Olive College):  Coming off his first full year of rehabilitation following “Tommy John” surgery, Sheldon appeared in 5 games for the Trojans finishing the year with a 2-1 record and a 4.35 ERA.  Sheldon allowed 5 ER in 10.1 innings pitched for a Mt. Olive team that made it back to the national semifinals.

HIGH SCHOOL: Sheldon was a standout all-around athlete at his high school…..lettered in baseball and football all four years while lettering in basketball for 2 years…... high school baseball coach was Tim Taylor…...earned All-Conference, All South Jersey and All-Star Team honors during his baseball career.....earned Freshman of the Year, Running Back of the Week, All-Conference (2 years), and All-State awards in football……In 2007, the Atlanta Braves selected Sheldon in the Major League Baseball Draft……Sheldon chose to go to college first and earn a degree before moving on with his baseball career…..

PERSONAL:   Interdisciplinary Studies Major with a concentration in Exercise Science….. born on 10/16/88…..most memorable sports moment was throwing the winning touchdown pass with 11 seconds left as a senior to beat his high school’s rival opponent…...goal after college is to pass his knowledge of baseball down to younger ball players…...favorite thing about the WSSU baseball program is how Coach Ritsche does everything he can to help his players succeed…..

COACH RITSCHE ON JOHNSON: “Sheldon is a power pitcher with a big frame that gives him a dominant presence on the mound.  He is able to command multiple pitches in the strike zone and refuses to give in to hitters.  I think that he took a little longer to recover from the infamous “Tommy John” surgery but it looks as if he will definitely be another successful patient.  With a fastball that stays in the low 90’s and his hard slider he will be one of our top end starters in 2012.”
