Marvin Bohannon Jr.

The Rams welcomed back Marvin Bohannon, Jr. in the summer of 2024 as the Defensive Assistant Safeties Coach.

Bohannon, Jr. recently was at Alabama A&M as the safeties coach for two years (2022-2024). During Coach Bohannon time at Alabama A&M University he coached a Defensive that had a Finalist for the Aeneas Williams Award (Top FCS Defensive Backs Award), 1st Team Freshmen All-American Safety, 2nd Team SWAC All-Conference Safety, and helped lead a defense that rank 5th in the nation FCS in defensive take a ways with (26). In 2022 Coach Bohannon was name to the Football Scoop Minority Watch List/Rising Stars, He had two players invited to HBCU Legacy Combine & FCS Combine, and one Defensive Back Signed Undrafted Free Agent with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Marvin Bohannon, Jr. is a local product and an alum of Winston-Salem State University joined the staff at Winston-Salem State University in the fall of 2019. He made an immediate impact with a dynamic first season for the Rams. Under his guidance, the WSSU linebacking corp made several improvements and the best is yet to come.

It didn't take long for Bohannon, Jr. to make an impact on the Rams. In his first full season with the WSSU linebackers, the Rams had a pair of selections to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) All-Conference team as well as the Don Hansen All-Super Region Two team. Sophomore Ta'Shaun Taylor was especially impressive as he finished the 2019 season ranked third in the CIAA in total tackles with 85 (47 solos).

Prior to joining the staff at Winston-Salem State Bohannon spent five seasons at Northeastern State University, while there he coached receives for two seasons and defensive backs for the last three seasons. During his time there, hehas coached several all-conference players and help two players get invited to NFL rookie camps. This year, Coach Bohannon, Jr. attended the 2019 NFL/NCAA Coaches Academy.

As a player, Coach Bohannon, Jr. had a stellar playing career at high school, collegiate, and professional levels. He is a native of Winston-Salem, N.C. and is a 2005 graduate of North Forsyth High School where he was an all-conference cornerback and team captain. He also had a successful collegiate career at Winston-Salem State University. He started 41 games in his four years as a member of the Rams, and he finished his career with 113 tackles, five pass breakups, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery. Upon graduation at WSSU, Bohannon, Jr. played in the Professional Indoor Football League for two years with the Alabama Hammer and one season as a member of the Columbus Lions. He started at cornerback for both clubs. 

He began his coaching career at his alma mater, North Forsyth High School, where he was in charge of coaching the secondary in 2011-12. After coaching two years at North Forsyth High School. In the summer of 2013, Bohannon, Jr. served as a strength and conditioning intern with North Carolina A&T State University. After the internship with NCAT, Coach Bohannon, Jr. was hired in the fall of 2013 season at Ellsworth Community College. There, Bohannon, Jr. was in charge of coaching the secondary and served as the strength & conditioning coordinator.

He coached four all-conference performers and one All-American cornerback.

Bohannon, Jr. graduated from Winston Salem State University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in therapeutic recreation. He graduated in 2016 with a Master of Science degree in health and kinesiology from Northeastern State University.  

The Winston-Salem, North Carolina, native is the son of Peggy Bohannon and the late Marvin Bohannon, Sr. Coach Bohannon is married to Paige Bohannon and has one son name, Truth and a daughter name, Choice Bohannon.
