Ryan McManus

Ryan McManus will lead the way when the Winston-Salem State Rams return to the golf courses. A leader with experience as a multisport athlete, McManus will look to lead the Rams in their next era of play on the golf courses this spring.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to be the head coach. Being able to bring the program back is exciting for the school and athletic department," McManus said. "The goal is to get the program to championship caliber play as soon as possible and I think we have the resources and support to do that quickly."

McManus is no stranger to the Rams. In addition to his duties as the men's golf head coach, McManus will also continue in his duties as the quarterbacks coach of the Rams football team. He is a 2009 graduate of Wake Forest University with a degree in communication. He began his coaching career as a volunteer at Kent State. He was also an extra in The Dark Knight Rises starring Christian Bale.

McManus began his coaching career at his alma mater, Wake Forest University where he spent three seasons as a graduate assistant for the Demon Deacons. He walked on to the team in 2005 and went on to see action in 43 games, including playing in both the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Championship Game and the FedEx Orange Bowl. McManus served as the Demon Deacons' holder on field goal and PAT attempts from 2007-09 and also played on the punt return team. Playing behind Wake Forest's all-time passing leader Riley Skinner for his entire career, McManus saw limited action at quarterback, completing six of 14 passes for 47 yards.

Under McManus' guidance quarterback Rod Tinsley improved in every major category from his freshman campaign. Tinsley improved in total completions, completion percentage, total yards, yards per game, and touchdowns. All while seeing his interceptions reduce. Tinsley led the CIAA in touchdown to interception ratio in 2016.

A native of Greenville, N.C., McManus graduated from Wake Forest in 2009 with a degree in communication. After graduation, he served as a volunteer on the coaching staff at Kent State and also was an extra in the football scene of the Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, starring Christian Bale.

McManus is married to the former Hannah Baxter in February, and the couple resides in Winston-Salem.
