Biography

2010: Andrew had an outstanding sophomore season…He competed in five cross country meets for the Rams….He recorded his fastest 8K time of 23:28 at the Inaugural Wilbur Ross Invitational…His biggest accomplishment of the cross country season came at the 2010 CIAA Championships where he won first place in the 8K with a time of 24:33.3 and led the Rams to the conference title.

2009: After sitting out the 2008 season, Andrew had a phenomenal debut in 2009 with a record-setting season…During the season, he recorded three first place finishes and finished in the top five in every race that he competed in during the season…He opened the season with a second-place finish at the UNC-Pembroke Invitational with a 25:42.96…His first win of the season came at the Salem College Invitational where he took first place with a 26:05.5 in the 8K event…He also won the 2009 Greensboro Invitational where he won the 8K event with a 25:29.1…He avenged his season-opening loss to UNC-Pembroke’s Pardon Ndhlovu by placing second at the Race of Champions at the American Cross Country Festival in Cary, North Carolina…Chebii posted a 14:52.00 in the only 5K event of the season…Only Maryland’s Alex Lundy was the only runner to top Chebii at the event…Chebii finished the season on a high note, winning the 2009 Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic where he took first place by the largest margin in the history of the event…He finished the 8K event in 25:22.0. 

Personal: Andrew will join the Rams Cross Country team after sitting out the 2008 season, though he competed in outdoor track & field as a true freshman last season… He has shown a great deal of potential as a distance runner and could have a great career in WSSU cross country…He ran a 3:50 in the 1500m run and a 1:50 in the 800m run…He is a native of Eldoret, Kenya where he attended Chebara Secondary School…He is the son of Jane and Peter Chebii.
