Heather Davis

Heather Davis currently serves Winston-Salem State University as the Director of University Student Activities and Engagement and volunteers and an Assistant Softball Coach, where she is tireless in her pursuit to enhances the academic experience and student retention through events and activities which promote student engagement, cultural appreciation, equity, civility, expression, citizenship, creativity and leadership.

As a former WSSU student, Heather obtained her undergraduate degree in business management in 2004, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude No. 1 in the School of Business and Economics and No. 10 in her graduating class. She advanced her education by obtaining her M.B.A.

On the athletic side, Davis was a standout softball player with a multitude of accolades. In her freshman season, Heather was named Frist Team All-CIAA, CIAA Rookie of the Year, the Lady Rams Most Valuable Player, named to the CIAA Championship All-Tournament Team and winner of Athletic Director’s Cup for having the highest GPA amongst her fellow student-athletes. And her freshman campaign was not a fluke, with Heather becoming one of the top softball student-athletes at WSSU and within the CIAA. At the end of her career as a Ram, she was four time First Team All-CIAA, named WSSU's Mary Garber Female Student-Athlete of the Year, #1 for shut-outs in the CIAA, second in the CIAA in strike-outs and first in strike outs looking, she led the CIAA in wins and was named to the CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic First-Team.

As an alumnus, Davis volunteers with the WSSU softball team as an assistant coach and pitching coach, and continues to be honored for her tremendous contributions to the university. Heather was named NCAA Woman of the Year for North Carolina and a member of the NCAA Circle of Female Athletes, was inducted in the Clarence E. “Big House” Gaines Hall of Fame, and been named a member of Winston-Salem State University’s 40 under 40.

While Davis has had a tremendous career as a Ram, her biggest accomplishment has been making her mother and sister proud. One piece of advice she would give the student-athletes present today: “Hold yourself accountable for your success and expect it from everyone around you!” Heather believes she must always strive to be the best version of herself, help as many people as she can, and ensure she serves as a good example for her family and others. Her motto is “A leader knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.” John Maxwell.

A current member of the WSSU National Alumni Association, The Women’s Fund of North Carolina, The Winston-Salem Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.,  and a graduate of Leadership Winston- Salem. Heather is a native of Detroit, Michigan and currently resides in Winston-Salem, NC.
