2021: Vanessa had a great sophomore year with a 2nd place finish in the 5K race, at the CIAA Cross Country Championship. She earned this medal with a time of 20:40. She also won first place in the mile run & 3000m race with times of 5:41.82 & 12:07.81 respectively.

2020: The 2020 season was canceled due to concerns regarding COVID-19.

Personal: Vanessa joined the Rams in the fall of 2020. She is a graduate of North Forsyth High School where she had a great career. She set school indoor track & field records in the 1000m, 1600m, and 3200m. She also set the school cross country record in the 3200m and the two-mile. She was an all-conference selection in 2017, and she was a three-time team MVP. She also won the Coaches Award for Outdoor Track & Field in 2018. She led her team to conference championships in 2019-20. Academically, she was equally impressive with a spot on the A-B Honor Roll, the National Honor Society, and the Black Achievers. She served as her class president in 2020 and one of the Crosby Scholars. She is a Justice Studies major and she is the daughter of Suzanne Poindexter and Roderick Jones.
