Biography
2019-20: Ma'Kyia continued her terrific career at Winston-Salem State University before the season was cut short. She highlighted the season with a second place finish in the women's 60m dash at the 2020 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Indoor Track & Field Championship with a 7.63. Her best time of the season came at the JDL DMR Invitational when she recorded a 7.59 in the event.
2018-19: Ma’Kyia solidified her spot as one of the top sprinters in the nation…She reached the finals of the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track & Field National Championships where she placed fourth in the women’s 60m dash with a carer-best 7.49…The finish earned her United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American honors…She was also a USTFCCCA All-Atlantic Region selection as well…During the outdoor season, she placed third in the women’s 100m dash with a 12.09….She won the women’s 100m dash at the Mount Olive Last Chance Meet with an 11.77...Her best 200m performance came at the CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships where she ran a 25.31.
2017-18: Did not compete for the Rams.
2016-17: Ma’Kyia had a solid freshman season…She placed seventh in the women’s 60m dash at the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Indoor Track & Field Championships…She also ran a 7.91 at the Camel City Invitational…In the outdoor season, she ran a 12.54 in the 100m dash at the Adidas Winthrop Invitational.
Personal: Ma’Kyia joined the Rams in the fall of 2016…She is a 2016 graduate of Northwest Cabarrus High School where she earned several honors, including being named the sprinter of the year for her team and she also earned all-conference honors…She also was a member of teams that won state, region, and conference championships…She is a Sports Management major and she is the daughter of Ivey and Allen Gayden.
