Final Stats
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University men's tennis team was swept by the Appalachian State University Mountaineers on Sunday morning at the WSSU Tennis Complex as ASU swept all six singles matches and a trio of doubles matches en route to handing WSSU a 7-0 defeat.
The Mountaineers surrendered only two total points in the three doubles matches as Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs earned an 8-1 win at first doubles over Brian Coxton and Ian Hunter; Philip Kloc and Alain Humblet defeated Maximilian Glodde and Mason King 8-1 at second doubles and Antentor Hinton and Calvin Brooks came up short versus Chris Mauch and Britton Webb 8-0 at third doubles.
The singles matches proved to be just as tough for the Rams as a gritty effort by WSSU came up short as the Mountaineers swept all six singles matches en route to the 7-0 blanking.
Brian Coxton once again proved to be the Rams' best player on Sunday morning as he battled Appalachian State's Trent Constance in a 6-3, 6-1 defeat. Coxton played well in the match as ASU's top singles player had no easy time in defeating the Rams' crafty veteran. Coxton would be the only WSSU player to record more than two points in a singles match on the afternoon.
The loss drops the Rams to 0-6 on the season while the Mountaineers improve to 3-1 on the season with the win.
WSSU returns to action at 4:00 p.m. as they face Catawba College at the WSSU Tennis Complex.
