Rams Struggle in 8-1 Loss to Shaw

WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (5-6, 3-2 CIAA) gave it their all, but could not match the Shaw Bears (9-2, 6-1 CIAA), Monday afternoon. The Rams battled to the wire in every set of the match, but the Bears proved too much for WSSU.

The Rams' sole bright spot came in doubles play when the team took an 8-5 win in #2 doubles. However, the team took losses at #1 doubles (6-8) and at #3 doubles (1-8).

The WSSU struggles carried over into singles play where the Rams lose all six points. Sophomore Corey Bonnette had a great effort falling, 4-6 and 3-6 while freshman Christopher Shew gave his all in a 5-7, 6-2 match as well.

The Rams will return to action, Saturday, when they face the Chowan Hawks in a rematch of last season's CIAA championship match. This meeting will be the first since the two teams last played for the conference title. The first match is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start, followed by a 5:00 p.m. match against the Hawks.
