HAMPTON, VA – The Winston-Salem State Lady Rams' (19-11) stellar volleyball season came to an abrupt end Saturday, when the team took a hard-fought three-set loss to the Saint Augustine's Lady Falcons (16-16). With a trip to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Championship match on the line, the Lady Rams fell short against the Lady Falcons 25-17, 25-16, and 25-17.

The loss was especially heartbreaking after the Lady Rams' stunning upset over the two-time defending conference champion Chowan Hawks yesterday evening. The Lady Rams struggled against a strong defensive effort by the Lady Falcons as WSSU managed just 26 kills and committed an uncharacteristic 25 attack errors in the match. Lady Rams junior hitter Francesca Edgerton led the offensive effort for the Lady Rams with nine kills. The next closest WSSU hitter totaled five kills.

Though the team finished short of their goal of claiming the first conference title in school history, it does not overshadow a fantastic season by the Lady Rams, who tied for the best regular season record in the CIAA Southern Division and defeated every team in the conference at least once this season.
