PETERSBURG, VA - The Winston-Salem State Rams (16-11) opened the
2011 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Men's
Tennis Championships with a bang as the team took a quick 5-0 win
over the Virginia Union Panthers, Thursday afternoon. The
second-seeded Rams dominated their opponents to take the win as the
team allowed just two set points to pick up the win.
The Rams wasted little time in taking control of the match as
the team took three straight doubles wins, 8-0, 8-0, and 8-1 to
take an early 3-0 lead. With the doubles sweep, the Rams needed
just two singles wins to secure the match victory. Freshman Nick John and Maximilian
Glodde scored the points that the Rams needed as John took a
6-0, 6-1 singles win while Glodde added a 6-0, 6-0 win to seal the
match win.
With the victory, the Rams advance to the next round of the
tournament and will take on the third-seeded Virginia State Trojans
in a 2:00 p.m. match at the Virginia State Tennis Complex on the
