CHARLOTTE, NC – The Winston-Salem State University Rams and Lady Rams track & field teams had some great performances at the 2012 Johnson C. Smith University Invitational this weekend. The meet saw some great performances by the WSSU sprinters and middle distance student-athletes.
The WSSU sprinters had some great finishes at the event with WSSU senior Shanika Lamons leading the way. She won the women's 200m dash with a 24.53 while fellow Lady Rams freshman Hannah Dula placed third in the event with a 25.10. Another WSSU freshman, Cruz Vargas-Sullivan rounded out the top five when she recorded a 25.24 in the event. Lamons also added a fifth-place finish in the women's 100m dash with a 12.29.
The Lady Rams sprint relay teams also had a great day, placing second in the women's 4x100m relay with a 46.52 in the event. The Lady Rams 4x400m relay team also had a great day, placing second with a 3:47.12.
The Rams were led once again by sprinter Michael Neal, who placed second in the men's 200m dash with a 21.45 while he also finished fourth in the men's 100m dash with a 10.84. WSSU junior Andrew Chebii also had a great day when he finished second in the men's 800m run with a 1:55.65 to lead all collegiate runners in the event. The WSSU 4x400m relay team won their event with a 3:17.54.
The effort will give the team some much needed momentum as they head into the 2012 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championships this weekend.
