ANDERSON, S.C. - Winston-Salem State used solid pitching and timely hitting to sweep a pair of games from Anderson University on Saturday, 8-3 and 4-0, at Memorial Stadium in Anderson S.C.
In game one Winston-Salem State scored twice in the second inning and three in the third to break open a tight game, as the Rams cruised to an 8-3 win over Anderson University.
WSSU pitcher, Justin Norton, picked up his first win of the season, going seven strong innings, allowing seven hits and three runs, while striking out six.
Ivan Acuna went 3 for 5 with a double, a run scored, and a run batted in. Nathan Steger went 2 for 4 with two RBI's and two runs scored and a double. Emilio Abreau also went 2 for 4 with a run batted in, and a triple. Willie McRae went 2 for 4 with a run batted in and a run scored, while Michael McNamara finished 2 for 5 with a run batted in and a run scored. Connor Bodenhamer went 1 for 3 with a run scored and a run batted in, and Randy Norris picked up a run batted in, and finished 1 for 4. Brandon Fowler and Philip Page also picked up one hit each.
In game two, Winston-Salem State got home runs from Nathan Steger, Connor Bodenhamer and Randy Norris, as the Rams scored twice in the fourth and plated a run in the sixth and seventh innings to slam the door on the Trojans for a 4-0 shutout.
Nathan Steger pitched a brilliant 5.2 innings, allowing just three hits, while striking out six, and Devin McLemore came in to pitch the final 1.1 innings, striking out two. Steger picked up his second win of the season and McLemore picked up the save.
Willie McRae went 2 for 4, and Nathan Steger, Connor Bodenhamer, Phillip Page, Ivan Acuna and Randy Norris had one hit each, with Steger, Bodenhamer and Norris had one home run each. Willie McRae and Phillip Page each had a double.
With the two wins, WSSU moves to 4-5 on the season, while Anderson falls to 4-5 on the year.
WSSU and Anderson will wrap up the three game series on Sunday at 1:00pm at Memorial Stadium in Anderson, S.C.
