Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams came up on the short end of pitchers dual, as Wingate scored two runs off of a WSSU fielding error in the sixth inning, as the Rams fell 2-0 to the Bulldogs Tuesday evening at BB&T Ballpark in Winston-Salem.
The loss drops Winston-Salem State to 6-10 overall, while Wingate improvers to 10-7 overall on the season.
A misplayed flyball to left field cost the Rams, as Wingate scored two unearned runs off the miscue, to allow the Bulldogs to surge ahead, 2-0.
The Rams threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but could not come up with a big hit or run, as WSSU dropped the 2-0 decision.
Marcus McKoy had a solid outing in his first collegiate start, going 5.0 innings, scattering two hits, while walking three and striking out three. Jordan Cummings took the loss for WSSU, going 2.1 innings, allowing two hits and two unearned runs, while striking out four. Austin Cole and Hayden O'Neal each pitched a perfect 0.1 inning, with Cole striking out one. Kanoa Hironaka pitched a perfect ninth inning.
The WSSU offensive attack was led by Landon Steiner, and Willie McRae who both finished 1 for 3, while Emilio Abreau, Nathan Steger and Randy Norris each went 1 for 4.
Winston-Salem State will host the Concord University Mountain Lions on Saturday and Sunday at BB&T Ballpark. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 1:00pm.
