Rams Dominant in Three-Set Win at Livingstone

SALISBURY, NC – The Winston-Salem State Rams (14-4, 10-1 CIAA) put on one of their best performances of the season when the team took a dominant three-set road win over the Livingstone Blue Bears (3-11, 3-8 CIAA). The Rams controlled all three sets of the 25-12, 25-9, and 25-11 victory. 

As a team, the Rams put on a dominating effort. The team totaled 45 kills with just 15 attack errors and six service aces. WSSU junior middle blocker Christa Brown led the way for the Rams with a team-high 14 kills in the match while freshman outside hitter Alexis Gregson-Hammond celebrated her birthday with a career-high 10 kills as well. Sophomore libero Makala Lytton added 12 digs in the match.

The Rams took control of the match in the first set and never looked back. The Rams opened the set with a 13-4 run that included back-to-back kills from junior outside hitter Mia Herrod. Livingstone answered with four straight points, but the Rams proved to be too much for the Blue Bears as a 9-2 rally ended the set and sealed the 25-12 set win.

The second set was the Rams' most impressive set of the match. Once again, the Rams opened the set in dominating fashion, going on a 7-2 rally to get things started. The Rams' most impressive run of the match came when the team went on a 10-3 run to claim a 22-8 lead before closing the set at 25-9.

After a pair of dominating efforts in the opening two sets, the Rams closed the match in style, but not without a fight by the Blue Bears. The Rams opened the set with a 9-2 start that included an 8-1 run to open the final set of the evening. Livingstone would answer with a four-point rally, but the Rams were not going to let the Blue Bears back into the match. The Rams answered with seven straight points to go ahead 16-5. The Rams would claim a 22-8 lead before Livingstone added an improved effort, but the Rams closed the match with a 3-3 run to close the 25-11 win.

With the victory, the Rams improve to 14-4 overall and 10-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). More importantly, the Rams improve to 5-1 in CIAA Southern Division play. The Rams will return to the road for their next action when the team heads to Fayetteville, N.C. to take on the Fayetteville State Broncos.
