Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC - In game two, WSSU jumped out to a 6-1 lead, but could not stay on top, as Concord exploded for 8 run in the fifth inning to surge ahead and eventually win the game.
With the loss, Winston-Salem State falls to 1-8 overall, while Concord improves to 2-6 overall on the young season.
WSSU scored two runs in the second, one in the third and three in the fourth to jump out to a 6-1 lead.
But the Concord Mountain Lions exploded for eight runs in in the top of the fifth inning to defeat the Rams, 9-6.
For the Rams, Randal Ortiz went 3 for 4 with one run scored and one run batted in, while Willie McRae 2 for 3 with one run scored. Randy Norris 1 for 4 with a run scored, and Michael McNamara 1 for 3 with one run batted in, one run scored and a triple. Willie McRae 2 for 3 with one run scored, and Ivan Acuna 1 for 4 with one run batted in and one run scored. Landon Steiner 1 for 3 with one run batted in and a double and Michael McNamara 1 for 3 with one run batted in, one run scored and a triple. John Garcia 1 for 3 with one run batted in.
WSSU and Concord will wrap up the series with a double header on Sunday afternoon, with the first game starting at 1:0pm.
