Box Score WINSTON-SALEM, NC – Winston-Salem State dropped a thriller to #4 Millersville University on Saturday, at BB&T Ballpark.
Millersville got the scoring started with a run in the first inning, the added three more in the third. The Marauders added one more run in the fifth and another in the sixth to jump out to a commanding 6-0 lead.
The WSSU Rams answered with three runs in the sixth, when Ivan Acuna doubled down the left field line, scoring Landon Steiner and Randy Norris. Kanoa Hironaka would a single and score Acuna to cut the lead to just 6-3.
The Marauders put up two more runs in the top of the seventh, setting the stage for an exciting comeback form the Rams in the bottom half of the inning.
After a Trevor Poole double, Brandon Ford single to score Poole, and Randy Norris reached on a fielder's choice, and advanced to second on a throwing error by the shortstop. The big blow came from the bat of Michael McNamara, who would crush a pitch to deep left center field, clearing the bases on the grand slam, to give WSSU a 9-8 lead, heading to the eighth.
Millersville would answer again, with a run in the eighth, to ties the game at 9-9, and eventually sending the game into extra innings.
The Marauders would plate two runs it the top of the 11th inning, to take the game 11-9, and take a 2-0 advantage in the series.
The Randy Norris had a great day at the plate, going 3 for 6 with two runs scored and Michael McNamara went 1 for 5 with a run scored and four runs batted in on the grand slam. Ivan Acuna sent 1 for three with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Kanoa Hironaka finsihed 2 for five with a rbi, Trevor Poole finished 2 for 3 with a run scored.
Millersville was led at the plate by Chas McCormick who finished 3 for 6 with three runs scored. David Summerfield went 2 for 5 with a run scored and two runs batted in. Eli Nabholz went 1 for 4 with two rbi's. Ben Snyder went 1 for 5 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Mitch Stolzfus went 1 for 6 with two runs scored and a run batted in, and Ted Williams finished 1 for 6 with two runs scored. Dan Neff, went 1 for 6 with a run scored.
