CHARLOTTE, NC – Winston-Salem State University senior forward Mason Harrell was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Food Lion Defensive Player of the Week, Monday afternoon. He took home the honor after a tremendous week of play for the Rams.

For the week, Harrell had a pair of great defensive performances. He opened the week with 11 rebounds (five defensive) and a blocked shot in a 68-64 win over the Claflin Panthers, Monday. He followed the effort with 14 rebounds (eight defensive) with four blocked shots in a 61-54 win over the Fayetteville State Broncos.

His efforts helped the Rams to a 2-0 record for the week while the team improved to 3-1 in CIAA Southern Division play. Harrell and the Rams will return to action, tonight when the team heads to Raleigh, N.C. to take on the Shaw Bears.
