Rams Football Begins Divisional Play, Travels to Livingstone Saturday Afternoon

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University football team will travel to Salisbury, North Carolina to take on Livingstone Saturday, October 8th in Alumni Memorial Stadium.

Series Information
This will be the 57th meeting between the Rams and the Blue Bears dating back to 1942. The Rams defeated Livingstone 21-0 on October 23, 2021. WSSU is currently on an 18-game win streak dating back to 2005.

Last Time Out vs. Livingstone
Winston-Salem State went airborne with three touchdown passes and the Rams defense recorded its second consecutive shutout for a 21-0 Homecoming win against Livingstone.  It was the Ram's third straight victory and 17th consecutive win over the Blue Bears.  WSSU improved to 3-2 in CIAA play and 3-4 overall.  Livingstone fell to 1-4 and 1-7.
 
Last Time Out
WSSU was scheduled to play Lincoln on October 1st but due to the potential threat of hurricane Ian, the game was canceled. The Rams dropped their fourth contest in a row after falling to Chowan 21-7 in Murfreesboro, North Carolina, last Saturday, September 24. The Rams had one chance at the 3:12 mark when Jahmier Slade entered the game and threw a 33-yard pass to RJ Mobley to give the Rams their only touchdown.
 
CIAA Weekly Awards
Sophomore defensive back, Justin Fleming was named the CIAA Defensive Back of the Week for week one after he returned one interception for a 25-yard touchdown and Winston-Salem State's first points of the game. His other interception came in the RedZone, stalling a Marauders' drive.
The defensive back also recorded five solo tackles, including one for a loss. His tackle for a loss came on a 3rd-and-1 that forced a Central State punt.
 
CIAA Pre-Season/Poll
Elijah Banks was named to the All-CIAA Preseason Team. Banks, a defensive back from Winston-Salem, North Carolina played in every game for the Rams during the 2021 season recording 34 total tackles (22 solo). He also had three interceptions for 47 yards, five pass deflections, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. He was a second-team All-CIAA selection.
Overall, the Rams were picked to finish third in the southern division and eighth in the conference.

The Crazy Ram Road Swing
Oddly enough, due to last week's cancelation, the Rams will be back on the road after spending the entire month of September traveling. The Rams opened the season against Central State in Ohio, then played N.C. Central in Durham, followed by Elizabeth City in Elizabeth City, and last week Chowan in Murfreesboro.
