Late Comeback Falls Short as the Rams Fell to Livingstone Saturday Afternoon

SALISBURY, N.C. - The Winston-Salem State University football team battled hard but a last second score from the Blue Bears gave Livingstone a 20-17 victory in Alumni Memorial Stadium. 

Livingstone snapped an 18-game winning streak improving to (2-4, 1-3 CIAA) while the Rams dropped to (0-5, 0-3 CIAA). 

Quick Recap 

The Blue Bears Davon Deloatch scored on a three-yard pass to score first with 12:17 left in the first quarter to take an early 7-0 lead. They, then added seven more to the board with 3:18 remaining in the half. 

The Rams cut into Livingstone's lead on a 33-yard field goal with ten seconds before halftime. 

WSSU's Asa Barnes added seven more for the Rams on a two-yard pass from Jahmier Slade with 11:03 to go in the third quarter. 

With 3:15 remaining in the game, Asa Barnes gave Winston-Salem their first lead (17-14) of the game on a 36-yard pass from Slade. 

With 27 seconds left in the game Livingstone put the nail in the coffin scoring six more to win the game. 

Inside the Numbers 

  • Jahmier Slade was 5-for-13 with one touchdown and two interceptions. 

  • Freshman Nicholas Jackson saw action for the first time this season and finishing 3-for5 for 57 yards. 

  • Asa Barnes led the Rams in rushing (74) and RJ Mobley had 73 yards in receiving. 

  • On defense, Jasahn Rankin had seven tackles, four solo, one sack and one interception. 

  • As a team, the Rams had 198 total rushing yard and 128 passing yards. 

Up Next 

The Rams are back in action on Saturday, October 15 hosting Shaw University at 1:30 p.m. inside Bowman Gray Stadium. It is also the HORN$/Military Appreciation game.
