WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team defeated Carolina University 79-46 inside the C.E. Gaines Center Tuesday night.
The Rams move to 2-0 in the C.E. Gaines Center and 3-2 on the season.
Kennedi Simmons led the way for the Rams finishing with 14 points, two assists, and six rebounds. Teammates Jainaya Jones and
Taniah Wilkins finished with 10 points each. Jainaya Jones also recorded a team-high five assists. Hadiya Balser recorded a team-high of eight rebounds. As a team, the Rams finished with 21 assists and 32 rebounds.
WSSU went up early in the first quarter leading 8-3 with 3:40 left in the quarter. They finished the quarter up four (15-11).
The game was tied 15-15 with 7:02 remaining in the half before the Rams went up by 16 to go into the half leading 35-19.
Winston-Salem's hot-shooting continued into the third as they increased the lead by 24 (45-21) with 7:20 seconds to play in the quarter. The Rams ended the quarter with 29 points (65-36).
WSSU had their biggest lead of the night up 35 (79-45) with 1:43 remaining in the game. Jada Douthit hit a three to give the Rams the 79-46 final.
The women are back in action on Saturday, December 3rd hosting Morris College at 2:00 pm inside the C.E. Gaines Center
