Last Time vs. NCCU
Winston-Salem State surrendered 10 second half points, allowing N.C. Central to claim a come-from-behind 20-13 win at O'Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham. The Eagles scored the game-winning touchdown with 61 seconds remaining.
 
The Rams mounted their most impressive drive of the game in the third quarter. Junior quarterback Cameron Lewis connected with freshman Antjuan Collins on a 19-yard pass for WSSU's only touchdown in the game.
 
Last Time Out
The Rams opened the season against Central State in the Black College Hall of Fame Game last Sunday, September 4 in Canton, Ohio. The Marauders defeated the Rams 41-21. RJ Mobley scored two touchdowns for the Rams and Justin Fleming had a pick six to score the first touchdown.
 
CIAA Weekly Awards
Sophomore defensive back, Justin Fleming was named the CIAA Defensive Back of the Week after he returned one interception for a 25-yard touchdown and Winston-Salem State's first points of the game. His other interception came in the redzone, stalling a Marauders' drive.
 
The defensive back also recorded five solo tackles, including one for a loss. His tackle for a loss came on a 3rd-and-1 that forced a Central State punt.
 
CIAA Pre-Season/Poll
Elijah Banks was named to the All-CIAA Preseason Team. Banks, a defensive back from Winston-Salem, North Carolina played in every game for the Rams during the 2021 season recording 34 total tackles (22 solo). He also had three interceptions for 47 yards, five pass deflections, one forced fumble and two fumble recoveries. He was a second-team All-CIAA selection.
 
Overall, the Rams were picked to finish third in the southern division and eighth in the conference.
 
The Crazy Ram Road Swing
WSSU is on the road four times before they face Lincoln University (PA) for homecoming on October 1st. After this weekend's contest, WSSU will begin CIAA play taking on Elizabeth City State University in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Game time is scheduled for noon.
