WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Winston-Salem State University women's basketball team defeated Johnson C. Smith, 71-55, Thursday night inside the C.E. Gaines Center.
The Rams improved to 11-7 (7-3) and the Golden Bulls moved to 6-11 (3-6 CIAA).
Valenica Carroll made six threes to finish with a season-high 23 points, while
Amaya Tucker finished with 18 points and four assists.
Kennedi Simmons scored a game-high 16 points with seven rebounds.
Erin Hall finished with a game-high of eight rebounds.
Both teams were tied at 12-all before WSSU finished the quarter on a 9-2 scoring run to end the quarter 21-14. The Rams went up 16 with 5:54 to play in the half and went into halftime up 34-28.
Even though the Golden Bulls outscored the Rams 13-11 in the third quarter, WSSU finished the quarter up 12, 49-37. WSSU outscored JCSU 22-18 in the fourth quarter to finish the game 71-55.
Winston-Salem is back in action on Saturday, January 28 at Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
