CIAA Preseason:
Jonathan Hicklin and
Isaac Parson were named to the All-CIAA preseason team Backcourt and
Nathan Springs was named to the All-CIAA Frontcourt team. Overall, the Rams were selected to finish third in the season and second in the Southern Division.
CIAA Weekly Awards:
- For week five, Jaylon Gibson was named the CIAA Player of the Week after scoring 25 points in the victory over Clark Atlanta. He also had 11 rebounds and shot 9-of-14 from the field.
CIAA Top-Ten Stats as of 1-4
- The Rams are fifth in the league in offense, averaging 74.5 points a game.
- They are ranked first in defense, only allowing 61.7 points a game.
- Jaylon Gibson is ranked fifth in scoring, averaging 14.6 points a game. He is also fifth in rebounding (7.3) per game. He's first in field goal percentage (.616) and fifth in blocked shots (1.0).
- Jaylen Alston is ranked third in rebounding (8.0). He's eight in free throw percentage (.739).

Atlantic Region Poll
For the last two weeks, the Rams have continued to be ranked in the seventh spot in the Atlantic Region of the D2SIDA poll.
HBCU Watchlist
Jon Hicklin was named to the 2023 HBCU All-Star game watchlist. The game is slated for April 2nd in Houston, Texas.
Scouting Report
VSU went 1-1 in the UVI HBCU Classic defeating Edward Waters, 93-70, and falling to Tusculum, 59-67. The Trojans are led by Terrance Hunter-Whitefield who leads the team in scoring averaging 18.1 points a game. BJ Fitzgerald leads the team in rebounds (112).
Shaw will host Johnson C. Smith tonight. They defeated Paine 93-92 on December 31st.
